GRANT AMOUNT
$63,400
Organization:
Keep Austin Fed
Project Title:
Food Recovery and Redistribution Hub
Project Description:
The goals for the proposed initiative are to increase the amount of surplus food redistributed to South Austin neighborhoods through new and existing partner agencies and direct-to-community giveaways, while also building its infrastructure to support operations.
The Impact Austin grant would fund a second redistribution hub, expanding from East Austin to also include South Austin. The location will include walk-in cold storage and food repackaging facilities. This will allow KAF to safely deliver food to adjacent food-insecure communities. KAF has 35 food contributors and 20 partner organizations in the southwest Austin Region that are not feasibly served with their existing East Austin hub.
In 2023, KAF has rescued more than 942,000 pounds of food. Building the South Austin Hub will allow KAF to accept more food donations, thus keeping more edible food out of landfills, providing more food to partner agencies, and adding direct-to-individual community giveaways in South Austin.
KAF will measure the success of the South Austin Hub by tracking the number of deliveries, the quantity of food delivered, and the method of distribution.
