Girls Giving Grants (G3) is Impact Austin's youth initiative and giving circle for young women in grades 8-12. G3 makes annual awards to Austin-area nonprofits that serve Central Texas youth. Since founding, they have awarded $107,200 to 17 organizations. At their February 26 meeting, the 50 members of G3 named five nonprofits as semi-finalists for their 2023 grant of $8,400.
The organizations moving forward are:
Each Application Review Committee (ARC) will prepare a visual and oral presentation to the entire G3 membership in order to advocate for one of the semi-finalists above. In late March, the entire membership will select two grant finalists. Site visits to those finalists will follow, with the vote to select the single grant recipient scheduled for late April. G3's grant check will be presented at Impact Austin's Annual Meeting on June 5 at the Long Center.
Members of Girls Giving Grants donate $125 each, with $100 directly applied to that year's grant. For the 2023 award, G3 was able to boost the grant size with funds provided from a family foundation in 2021. The next class of Girls Giving Grants will register during August-September, 2023.
We recently heard from Vera Powell, the current President of Girls Giving Grants. She wrote, "I joined Girls Giving Grants as an 8th grader and immediately felt honored to be a part of the G3 process. Our organization brings many ages and communities together, collaborating to make a significant impact in Central Texas. Each year, we are able to fulfill important community needs, all while promoting and teaching philanthropy to our members. G3 proves that everyone is capable of making a positive impact on their community!"
