Girls Giving Grants (g3) received 25 grant applications this year from Austin area community partners. They recently narrowed down their choices to six semi-finalists; one per application review committee.
The semi-finalists are:
~Austin Diaper Bank - to raise 250,000 diapers or 33,000 days of diaper changes
~Urban Roots - Hunger Relief Initiative, where youth interns will grow and harvest over 30,000 pounds of produce and will donate 40% of that produce to local hunger relief organizations. That produce will be used to feed at least 5,000 people, and they will gain an increased appreciation for social justice and hunger relief.
~Kids in a New Groove - music lessons for girls in foster care in Travis County and surrounding areas. The one on one mentoring relationship of women supporting women will give girls in foster care the ability to build concrete strategies for life long success.
~Mother’s Milk Bank at Austin - Milk Money: Charitable Care for Fragile Infants
~The Amala Foundation - full scholarship funding for eight young people and a partial for one additional youth to attend the 9th annual Austin Global Youth Peace Summit
~Breakthrough Austin - Supporting Breakthrough Habits, a study skills course that occurs during the Summer Program at St. Andrews for low income middle school students who will become 1st generation college students
Next, the girls will present each semi-finalist to the entire group. They will vote and select their two finalists. After finalists are selected, site visits will be held in April.
The girls of g3 celebrated 10 years of giving in December at Dell Children's Center.
