Introducing Our New Members

The Impact Austin Grant Committees are up and running and our fifteenth-anniversary grants are on their way! Help us welcome these new members who are joining us in our mission of collective giving. We asked them three basic questions – “How did you find out about Impact Austin and what inspired you to join, What is your short and sweet biography, and optionally, What do you think might surprise or interest your new friends about you?” Here are their answers!

Impact Austin Member Katherine JohnsonMeet Katherine Johnson, and say, “Hi!” the next time you see her.

“My friend Nancy Mutcher introduced me to Impact Austin at a wine event at her house. I was inspired to join after listening to previous grant recipient speak about how the grant profoundly made a change in the lives of foster children and their rate of adoption.”

“I am a bilingual speech-language pathologist, working primarily with Spanish speaking families. My husband, 6-year old son and I love to travel and enjoy time on the lakes and rivers in Austin. I also enjoy music, painting and working out.”

“I have completed several mission trips to Guatemala to work with children who have communication deficits, and hope to continue to build a partnership with orphanages and schools to provide support for children with communication needs.”

Impact Austin Member Tonya MartinezMeet Tonya Martinez, and say hello the next time you see her!

“Impact member, Melissa Lorber, mentioned the group to me. It sounded like a great charitable giving idea as well as a good way to meet some new and interesting people. After listening to Rebecca at one of the coffees, I was sold.”

“I work for State Farm as an attorney in their corporate law department. I have 14-year old boy/girl twins who are freshmen at Anderson High School after being at a small, private school (Redeemer Lutheran) since they started pre-school at 2. I love attending and photographing (as much as they will allow) all their events.”

“I moved 6 times before graduating from high school, all in the North. I hate the cold. I love to scuba dive.”

Impact Austin Member Melissa O'ReillyMeet Melissa O’Reilly, and say, “Hi!” the next time you see her!

“I have known about Impact Austin since shortly after I moved to Austin in 2004. At the time, I was fresh out of college and not in a position to contribute financially. Fast forward a dozen years, and I've met several women who have sung the praises of the organization and the women they have met. Given my growing level of involvement and interest in the nonprofit community here in Austin, I knew it was finally time to take the plunge.”

"I'm an in-house attorney at a health software company and a volunteer and member of the local community board at Jeremiah Program. I'm also a wife and a mom of two young kids, and an active member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church.”

“I love learning new things, making new friends, going to see live music, and exploring Austin's restaurants and coffee shops. I'm passionate about education and poverty alleviation, and I care deeply about helping moms and kids.”
